There is a cliff on the right side of the boss battle, but if you take damage there and fall down, you will have to survive in a place that cannot be seen on the screen, and you will not be able to receive or deal damage.
I found out that I could restart by pressing the 0 key, and was able to clear the game after that!
This game is an absolute blast! I love it! This make me want to playthrough the I know painful but original Megaman games (so many games in the backlog sadly), but also reminds me a bit of Mighty Gunvolt, somehow. I would gladly replay the game again.

Yup, indeed, Megaman was one of our big inspirations for this project (and a lot of our projects in general), we simply love the blue bomber.
If you want to replay the game, there is a easter egg we hide but we didn't have the time to show how to get it. In the titlescreen, press the keys "Z", "E", "R" and "O" at the same time, or simply type the letter "0".
